About William

I’m William Lawrence. I was raised in Mid-Michigan. This is my home. I’m from here, I’ve been here, and I’ll be here.

I’m running for Congress in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District to win a Michigan we can afford, a future we can look forward to, and a country we can be proud of.

I’m an organizer and coalition-builder with experience speaking truth to power and getting results at the local, state and federal level.

I began my career focused on stopping climate change and creating green jobs. I was a founder of Sunrise Movement, which under President Biden, helped pass the largest green jobs program in U.S. history, and delivered hundreds of millions of dollars in investment to Michigan’s 7th Congressional District.

I’ve spent the last four years working for good housing here in Michigan. I am a founder of the Michigan Rent Is Too Damn High Coalition, which fights for solutions to the housing crisis, and has won statewide protections for low-income renters. I am also a founder of the Mid-Michigan Tenant Resource Center, which empowers tenants to know their rights, and secure good housing.

Here’s what my friends and collaborators will tell you about me: I’m always going to be real, lead with my heart, and put in the work to make things right. That’s something that I can tell you, but I’d rather show you. Join this campaign, get to know me and let me show you what I’m about – a relentless dedication to making life better for everyone.
